Brian Lee

Brian Lee, MD Ph.D is the Director of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. Dr. Lee completed his undergraduate training, medical school, and neurosurgery residency at USC. He earned his Ph.D in neuroscience from Caltech and completed a functional / epilepsy fellowship at UCSF. His clinical and research focus is on developing neurorestorative technologies and cognitive-based brain computer interface (BCI) devices for patients with movement disorders and spinal cord injuries. In particular, Dr. Lee is interested in utilizing intracranial subdural electrocorticography (ECoG) electrodes as a platform for recording and stimulating the human cerebral cortex to better understand how somatosensation is natively encoded, and conversely, how to engineer artificial sensation through direct ECoG electrical stimulation for use in a closed-loop BCI.
